East Main Sewer Separation Project

In 2014 the City of Lancaster entered into a compliance schedule with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency to reduce combined sewer overflows within the City.  We are now half way through the scheduled work.

The City of Lancaster has recently entered into a contract for the above project with Trucco Construction Company from Delaware, Ohio to install over 2,100 feet of new storm sewer and related appurtenances in the East Main Street/Cherry Street area.  This project has been mandated by Ohio EPA in order to separate the combined sewers into separate sanitary and storm systems so as to reduce removed stormwater from the combined sewer system and reduce overflows into the Hocking River and its tributaries.

As part of this project, new storm sewers will be constructed on the north side of E. Main St. (between Baldwin Run and the alley west of N. Cherry St.), N. Cherry St. (between E. Main St. and E. Wheeling St.), and Angle Street (between E. Main St. and alley north of E. Main St.).  The project is being financed with a low interest loan from Ohio EPA and will be repaid with Stormwater Utility Funds.

Work is currently scheduled to begin in mid-April 2025 with mobilization and utility investigation work and is expected to be fully completed in November 2025.  The contractor has indicated that they intend to generally work Monday-Friday between the hours of 7AM and 5PM.  The tentative schedule provided to us by the contractor is as follows:

  • E. Main St. – Baldwin Run to N. Cherry St.                                   April to June
  • E. Main St. – N. Cherry St. to alley west of N. Cherry St.             June to July
  • E. Main St. – Baldwin Run to alley west of N. Cherry St.              July to August
    • (This phase consists of three select storm sewer crossings of E. Main St.)
  • N. Cherry St. – E. Main St. to E. Wheeling St.                                August to September
  • Intersection of N. Cherry St. and E. Wheeling St./Angle St.           September to October
  • Angle St. – E. Main St. to alley north of E. Main St.                        October to November
  • Punchlist activities and final completion                                          November

Please note that, as with all construction projects, this schedule is weather dependent and subject to change.
