Slade Schultz was sworn in by Mayor Don McDaniel February 25, 2025 as the Chief of Lancaster Fire Department. The Lancaster Fire Department is the largest career department in Fairfield County Ohio handling over 10 thousand calls for service annually. Chief Schultz oversees a department with approximately 84 career members.

A lifelong resident of the Lancaster area, Fire Chief Slade Schultz brings a deep-rooted dedication and extensive experience to the Lancaster Fire Department. A 1999 graduate of Berne Union High School, he proudly continues a family legacy as a third-generation firefighter.

Chief Schultz began his career with the Lancaster Fire Department on May 13, 2002, spending his first ten years of service with Crew 1. His commitment to the department and its members led to six years of service on the IAFF Local 291 Executive Board, where he played a key role in advocating for firefighters' well-being and professional development.

In recognition of his leadership and expertise, Chief Schultz was promoted to Lieutenant on October 31, 2012. He further expanded his knowledge and skills through instructing EMS and fire courses at Eastland-Fairfield Career Center, Ohio University Lancaster, and Hocking College, sharing his passion for public safety with future generations of firefighters and paramedics.

A graduate of Ohio Fire Executive Class 13, Chief Schultz is committed to continuous learning and professional growth. His dedication to excellence was recognized in 2019 when he was awarded Fire Officer of the Year by the Ohio Division of Public Safety.

He earned an Associate's Degree in Fire Science from Eastern Gateway Community College in June 2021, further solidifying his expertise.

Demonstrating his commitment to the highest standards of leadership, Chief Schultz became a Credentialed Fire Chief by the Ohio Fire Chiefs' Association in November 2021.

Chief Schultz currently resides in Lancaster with his family, where he continues to serve and protect the community he calls home.
