Mayor's Office

Don McDaniel is a native of Lancaster, Ohio and graduated from Lancaster High School in 1980.  Following high school, he served for four years in the United States Marine Corps.   

Don is a thirty-year veteran of the Lancaster Police Department.  During his career at LPD, he worked in various assignments and positions.  He served his final two-plus years as Chief of Police.   

Don has been involved in the Lancaster community, coaching girls’ softball for many years. He also coached biddy basketball at Tarhe Elementary School for ten years.  He is a member of Lancaster Rotary. And he currently serves as a member of the Salvation Army Board.  

After retiring from LPD, Don worked for the Lancaster Parks and Recreation Department, as the Supervisor of Recreation Services.  His duties included managing both Tiki and Miller swimming pools and managing all the recreation programs and programming. 
  
In 2018, Don was appointed to serve as 2nd Ward City Council Representative to finish an unexpired term. In 2019, he was elected to an At-Large position on City Council. Don served two full terms in that position. While serving on council Don was appointed to chair the Finance Committee, he also served as President Pro Tempore for much of his time on council.  

Don and his wife Tracey, have four adult children and three grandchildren.  They have been married for thirty-eight years and attend St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.

  • The mayor shall perform all the duties prescribed by the bylaws and ordinances of the municipal corporation.  He/she shall see that all ordinances, bylaws, and resolutions of the legislative authority are faithfully obeyed and enforced.  He/she shall sign all commissions, licenses, and permits granted by such legislative authority or authorized by Title VII of the Revised Code, and such other instruments as by laws or ordinances require his/her certificate.
  • The Mayor maintains safe streets by appointing and supervising the city's Service-Safety Director, who works closely with the Police and Fire Chiefs along with City Department Superintendents.
  • The Mayor works along with City Council members providing information they request in order to help make good decisions for the residents of Lancaster.
  • They Mayor delivers a "State of the City" address once a year to inform residents, businesses and elected officials of the city's progress and its future outlook.
  • The Mayor is an elected official that serves a 4 year term beginning on the first day of January after his/her election.
